Skate the Grand, a US Figure Skating-approved Basic Skills Competition hosted by the Greater Grand Rapids Figure Skating Club, will take place on August 8, 2026, at the Patterson Ice Center. Designed to provide a fun, introductory competitive experience for beginner skaters, the event is open to all current members of the Basic Skills Program, full US Figure Skating members, and eligible members of other clubs. Competitive levels are determined by the skater's highest passed skill level as of the entry closing date, and all events will strictly follow the Learn to Skate USA "Compete USA Competition Manual" guidelines.

Registration and scheduling are managed online at https://sk8stuff.com/, with entry fees set at $60 for the first event and $20 for each additional event (plus a potential $15 late fee for tardy entries). On-site registration opens one hour before the competition, and skaters must check in at least one hour prior to their scheduled ice time. Music programs should be uploaded online, though skaters must keep a backup digital copy or CD at rink-side. Additionally, 20-minute practice ice sessions will be available for $10 at the door, and all participants will receive a medal or ribbon to celebrate their performance.
